Becca Segal Show Notes

Key Points:

• Throughout her time starting her business “Wotter,” Becca learned the importance of confidence and preparation. If you are prepared and confident enough, people will take you seriously. 
• Becca mentioned that she has always been a ‘Yes’ person. She advocates for jumping into opportunities saying it “makes her life more interesting.”
• Becca mentioned the importance of learning to take yourself seriously. She mentioned “If you don’t take yourself seriously, no one else will.” In order to combat this, Becca has started to prepare more for her meetings and classes to signal the importance of each individual event.
• She also spoke about the importance of diverse friendships in college. Having friends who are not entirely like you can help you gain perspective and critical thinking skills.
• Looking to meet new friends? Becca recommends going to places that will make you talk. Think of places that are more structured like club meetings or first year experiences. Starting conversations are easier at these meetings and will help you diversify your friends and interests.
  • Try reframing your mindset away from the “tyranny of being picked.” Reframe your mindset to think that other people are hoping for you to be their new friend.
• As students, we sometimes get locked into needing to do A, B, and C. When in reality, we might do A, B, and C and hate them. As we grow, our opinions change and sometimes we need to remember that it is natural to switch up our plans and that it’s okay.
• Becca is a huge fan of Google Calendar. She finds it important to have a visual plan of her schedule allowing her to have a clear understanding of what activities and events she needs to complete.
  • Time Blocking has also helped her be productive for each activity.
• Becca says that one of the biggest factors between success and failure in college is merely committing to showing up. One of the easiest things to do is “overpromise and underdeliver.” By committing to showing up, allows you to manage the events more easily. (if it's on the calendar, just show up)

  • Practice and find opportunities to speak
