    Bryce Hopper Show Notes

    Key Points:

    • Learning different languages can help you think about things differently as some languages are better at conveying information than others.
    • Bryce talked about the power of teamwork through the “yes, and” mentality and the importance of detachment from individual ideas, favoring the solutions of the team.
    • “Presentations are all about giving a story not a reason”
      • Do diligent research and make listeners feel like you understand them
    • Bryce’s two public speaking tips:
      • Realize that everyone watches presentations like you watch presentations
        • No one wants you to fail
      • Excitement and nervousness are similar feelings
        • When you feel nervous it is because you care
    • Awareness proceeds with understanding. Becoming aware helps you understand and understanding leads to solutions and change.
      • When you can see the perspective you are looking from that allows you to realize you can move that perspective. Being bored builds awareness. When you eliminate the things that fill in the space, you start to walk in silence.
    • Location impacts productivity. Clarifying the what, when, and where helps keep us focused on what is important.
    • Two different types of “rights”
      • Freedom to
      • Freedom from
    • The question “Why not?” creates the high-level assumption “any behavior is acceptable to me unless I have a reason not to.” This approach makes us fall into decision-making. Bryce advocates for the positive assumption “No behavior is acceptable to me unless I can justify it” since where you start has a huge impact on where you end up.
    • Freedom to be something REQUIRES restrictions
      • You create discipline through rules
      • Discipline becomes enabling bc it gives you freedom
    • If you want to excel, look for the fire that pushes you beyond just good
