Innovative ideas are abundant in today’s world, but what is missing are the action-takers who turn those ideas into reality. Casey emphasized the need to fall in love with the idea of exploring and flexing your own curiosity, which will in turn attract the problems you will be motivated to solve.
People tend to make the decision that they want to create a company and forget the importance of having a purpose behind what they want to do. Casey emphasized the importance of starting with a passion and then creating a company.
Casey described the importance of clarifying the intentions of your actions. In the context of our discussion on meditation, we touched on the importance of scaling down meditation times to shorter less, challenging session lengths to reveal the intrinsic value of a meditation session.
Rather than setting strict goals for himself and his mental health, Casey has decided to switch to focusing daily on the systems he puts in place to improve his mental health with no goal in mind. Casey emphasized the importance of starting with extremely minute tactics for improvement in life.
Self-improvement is not “one-size fits all.” Casey and Jack emphasized the importance of focusing on yourself and picking out the actions and habits that make sense for you. Possessing an “Open to Everything, Attached to Nothing” mentality allows you to survey the importance of things, try new things, and pick out what makes the most sense for you.
Casey discussed the importance of recognizing our negative self-talk. As students, we tend to treat ourselves worse than we would treat anyone else. Casey found that the first step in changing his self-talk was to first recognize when it was happening. By recognizing the times when our negative voice gets louder, we are able to quiet it down and disprove its comments with a more positive voice.
Casey has switched his mindset to goal setting setting really large goals to implementing daily habits that are satisfying now and will build into the larger achievements. Jack mentioned the Law of Detachment from “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” by Deepak Chopra, which states in order to achieve anything in life you must be willing to give up your attachment to the result.
The more you are present in life, the more you are aware of what is going on around you, the more you are living with life. By living intentionally you are able to switch to living proactively rather than reactively.
Casey spoke about a method he uses for productivity called the “Pomodoro Technique” which emphasizes regular breaks after a certain period of time, usually 25-30 minutes. As well as remembering to use the “Do Not Disturb” mode on his phone.
