Cole’s need to gain Leadership experience was motivated by being able to tell stories in the future and have a fun time. He notes anyone can be a leader if you work on it. (see tips below)
Always wants to remind people to be active and have fun, to remember that college is only so long. While there, work on making yourself comfortable doing the uncomfortable.
Remember to keep in mind you could die tomorrow. You don’t know how short/long your life is going to be so don’t be nervous. Being nervous means you're excited and that you care.
Always smile. Smiling has a chemical reaction in your mind that makes you happier, plus smiling at others makes others happier. A tip to always smile is to start chuckling to yourself.
Habit building is like the launch of a rocket. People stop too fast when they don’t see the rocket off the ground, but if they wait a little longer, it takes off to outer space. Start small with the 2-minute rule and habits will compound over time.
Removing distractions brings you the ideas you are looking for and improves your mental health.
GET INVOLVED. Immerse yourself in different experiences to find out what you like and don’t like. Through this, you will build connections and that’s what college is all about, connections.
Try to work on not caring what others think of you. This helps form trust in yourself.
“Kiddy Pool”- Most things are not that deep, if this won’t matter a year from now, don’t stress about it. You give power to other people by reacting.
Cole’s Best Presentation Tips:
Focus on your breathing: Try the technique that children use is to calm themselves down, inhale to your max amount and then quickly add a little bit more.
Make your presentations fun: No one likes a boring presentation. Cole suggests adding jokes to keep the presentation light-hearted.
Body Language: Keep yourself open. It shows off your vulnerability to others but instills confidence in yourself.
Smile: Smiling makes you happy and not as nervous. Plus no one likes a presenter who is frowning.
Cole’s Key Leadership Tips:
Always relate to the people you are leading and continue to work with them and not only hear but value their opinions.
Stay positive and never bring anyone down. Leading on fear is not ideal (think about SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs). Instead, lead with sympathy.
Be buddies with the people you lead and establish trust with them. Trust makes business run.
