Mikey decided to do a door-to-door sales internship because he felt that “once he can sell door-to-door he could sell anything.” Throughout this experience, he learned that people buy a “why” or a story and not the product. He advocates always having a “why” and keeping it at the front of your mind.
After selling e-cigarettes in high school and being picked on for being physically small, Mikey realized that he needed to start doing the things he wanted to do the right way instead of the wrong way.
He said that he felt that it was necessary to go through the tough time when he felt bad to realize that he wanted to be proud of who was. Mikey provided the moment of seeing a guy walk off a massive yacht and how he wants to live a life like that.
You can't control what other people think or what they do, but you can control yourself. Going to the gym consistently helped Mikey control how he looked and his self-image leading to him overcoming tough times in high school.
Mikey has developed a mindset around taking massive action daily for what he wants. He mentioned when he started his lawn care company, he just decided to take action and act the part. His mentality behind this was that you either win or learn.
Mikey feels like the best way to learn things is to use resources such as YouTube and TikTok to your advantage and to try them on your own. He said the only thing that makes you better is to try to get better. You can consume content all day but you won’t get much better if you don’t do anything with what you have learned.
Mikey advocated for having a schedule, one that specifically gives him time during the day to have time for himself so he can focus on important tasks. He mentioned the importance of making your bed, as it allows you to start the day off with a win, making it easier to compound wins throughout the day.
Mikey is on board with delaying gratification. He has noticed that once he became invested in the results, he started to like doing the hard things. “The more you make your life hard now, the easier it will be later.”
He thinks everyone should do something hard daily and he created “Once a Day”, a Snapchat story where he does one challenging thing daily to challenge and inspire others.
When you act friendly towards others, people will open up. Mikey’s mentality is to talk to as many people as possible since there are a lot of people who have been around way longer than you and are doing way cooler things than you. He feels that not talking to people is always a missed opportunity.
You become like the people whom you surround yourself with.
Mikey encourages undergrads to hang around the people who are driven and are getting the results you want. He also encourages reflection on your strengths and weaknesses so you can start to improve and help others.
